On 24th August 2016, MCI in partnership with Right to Play and NOC*NSF (the Dutch National Olympic Committee) hosted the Olympic Gala dinner. Every two years, the gala dinner is hosted with the objective to raise funds for young children who are faced with poverty stricken, disease prone and conflict conditions, across the globe. Through the use of sports and games, children from underdeveloped societies are given opportunities to not only improve their standard of living, but also experience the benefit of play thereby learning important skills. The theme of the evening; ‘igniting dreams’ was the focus for this year’s event, and definitely its outcome mean that thousands of children across the globe will see their dreams become reality.
At the charity event 16 Dutch National Olympians across various sporting codes showed their support for the cause. The gala dinner hosted at the majestic Vredespaleis (Peace Palace) in The Hague, the Netherlands, comprised the live auction, whereby Alexander Pechtold, played an incremental role in the success of the fundraising. Both the live and silent auction was heralded as a major success, with the event raising almost €400 000 for the children.
For the second time, the partnership with MCI has proven to be a momentous occasion. With the participation of 300 guests, everyone was present with a single purpose; to help and motivate children in disadvantaged communities.
The interest in the Olympic Gala was high also on Social Media. During the night #OlympischGala became one of the most popular subjects in the Netherlands, captivating the attention of general media and the wider audience.
