Debunking the Myths of Sustainable Events

Share

MCI’s very own Roger Simons and Pranav Sethaputra – from our Sustainability Services Team – were invited to guest edit BizEventsAsia’s Sustainability Edition for the second consecutive year.

Here is a brief summary of the key learnings presented in this year’s issue:

  • Thought Leadership

How do you create events with purpose, and how do you communicate your sustainability commitments the most effectively? This year’s issue explored the importance of using events to tell a story, while “backing up” that story with quantitative and qualitative data. Roger and Pranav also addressed the “myths about sustainable events” by revealing how they can be simple, luxurious and generate a significant return at the same time!

  • Tooling Up

Disruption, innovation, starts-ups, tech launches – you can’t turn a page these days without learning about the latest service or product based on mobile technology and apps. The great news is that mobile applications for the business events industry are a driving force in sustainability and efficiency, helping us to be more effective at managing events and to print less whilst boosting attendee networking and engagement. But it doesn’t stop there – this year also saw the launch the Global Destination Sustainability Index, a MCI managed global tool to help event professionals make better choices when it comes to sustainability and for destinations to improve their sustainability performance.

  • Opportunities to Watch

The MCI Sustainability Team is constantly on the lookout for growing trends and opportunities around responsible events. This year, we look towards China and its potential to become the “eco-destination of the future.” MICE destinations in China are developing rapidly but with a newly discovered, environmentally conscious state of mind. With China setting its sights on being a science and sustainability world leader, it’s worth keeping an eye on further developments here.
