Top Tips: Prevent Event Technology From Becoming a Hassle

Event technology

Despite being one of the hottest trends in the events industry, event technology is also one of the most effective tools to deliver immersive experiences and dazzle the audiences. While its impact on optimising event planning and engaging attendees is evident, event technology shouldn’t be adopted just for the sake of it. Nor should it act as an extra burden on the shoulders of event planners.

Increased return on investment and attendee retention and satisfaction are all possible with the help of event tech, but in order to see such numbers pan out, it is crucial to take on a personalised approach, which blends event technology into your event’s goals and target audience.

So how can you ensure technology is a benefit and not a struggle? Here are some red flags to keep an eye on before delving into the endless pool of digital possibilities.

It offers far too many things beyond your actual needs. There is a fine line between ‘using’ and ‘overusing’. Event technology can really be efficient once it is smoothly integrated into the overall event experience. It should compliment the event’s other elements and enhance the areas that require it the most, like registration, audience engagement and marketing. So, make sure you don’t take too far, otherwise this will lead you to the following red flag.

Your audience feels overwhelmed because they are not tech-savvy. This is where knowing and understanding your target audience is key. Are they ready to adopt event technology? Forcing it on them can be rather harmful!

It is too expensive. Expense in itself is not usually a deal breaker, however, any cost without return on investment is undesirable to any business or industry.

There is no evident link between technology and your event needs. While technology can be a strong tool, for example in terms of networking, registration and attendee satisfaction, it won’t reach its full potential unless there is a business reason behind its adoption. Once you identify the areas where event tech can add value, you can actually reap the benefits of it.

Great points, Maria – you’re right, it’s important to remember that just because all this fancy tech is available, doesn’t necessary mean a particular event has to have ALL of it. As you pointed out, the key is choosing the right tech to match your objectives. Thanks for sharing!
